Jack Prelutsky - Children's Books
Jack Prelutsky started writing poetry more than thirty years ago and his wacky and imaginative poems have turned children (and adults) into poetry lovers ever since. He is the author of more than 50 poetry collections - not bad for someone who confesses to not liking poetry when he was young. Prelutsky has also set his poems to music and frequently sings and plays guitar on the audio versions of his anthologies. In addition, he has compiled numerous children's anthologies comprising poems of others. In recognition of his tremendous creativity, in 2006 Prelutsky was named the first ever 'Children’s Poet Laureate' by the Poetry Foundation. In 2007, his bookBehold the Bold Umbrellaphant and Other Poems won the Scandiuzzi Children's Book Award. Not one to rest on his laurels Prelutsky has published several works since then: Pizza, Pigs, and Poetry: How to Write a Poem; My Dog May Be A Genius; Awful Ogre Running Wild; Be Glad Your Nose Is on Your Face And Other Poems; It's Christmas; and most recently The Swamps of Sleethe: Poems From Beyond The Solar System (2009). In this latest book - a comedically cautionary tale of verses - the author explores outer space and many imaginative ways to perish in the foreboding world beyond our solar system.
