George Lowe - Humor, Local Interest
George A Lowe was born in Seattle and made a career as an advertising writer for forty-five years. After retiring from advertising, George kept up his habit of storytelling and writing by authoring several books including his adventures on a cargo ship sailing through the Aleutian Islands, biographies of friends and his life in Seattle. He and his family came to live on Bainbridge Island in a home on Rolling Bay. George had a "maritime obsession," as he described it. He bought his first sailboat a year after graduating from high school and built several boats throughout his life, including two 26-foot Thunderbird racing sloops. He built one in the basement of his Rolling Bay house on Bainbridge Island. George has written several books, among them are Tramper (2003), Tender Grapes (2005), Best of Friends (2008), The Hard, Hard Life of George A Lowe (2008), and The Trouble with Seattle (2011). Anyone familiar with Seattle will find The Trouble with Seattle to be "A humorous look at the virtues and foibles of Seattle, past and present". He sums up his views in the final sentences of the book. "Like any city anywhere, Seattle has been and always will be a mixed bag. Go on out and enjoy it. Better wear a jacket, it looks like rain." |
