Chuck Flood - Historic highways, roadside Americana, ghost towns
Chuck Flood has been on Bainbridge Island since 1979. He has four books in print and the first three volumes were each a collection of over 200
vintage postcards and photos,
Washington's Highway 99 (2013),
Washington's Sunset Highway (2014), and
Oregon's Highway 99 (2016). Each presents "a virtual road trip along Pacific
Northwest highways in pre-freeway days. Though many early roadside businesses
have vanished, large stretches remain of the original highways; some towns
along the routes are little changed, and curious motorists will find abundant
reminders of when travel was an adventure." His most recent book,
Lost Restaurants of Seattle (2017), remembers "beloved lunch counters, oyster houses, roadside
